Take A Cue From Marry Saturday, April 7th

But one thing is needful: and Marry hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her (Luke 10:42).

In Luke Chapter 10, Jesus visited Mary and Martha in their home. While Martha hurried into the kitchen to try to fix something for Jesus to eat, Mary with great excitement, sat at the Lord’s feet to hear the Word, enjoying every moment of fellowship with Him. Enraged that her sister wouldn’t come to help her in the kitchen, Martha came to the master and blurted, ‘’…Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to come and help me!’’ (Luke 10:40 GNB).

Rather than reprimand Mary for not assisting in the chores, Jesus answered ‘’…Martha, Martha! You are worried and troubled over so many things’’ (Luke 10:41 GNB). The phrase ‘’many things’’ shows that Martha’s frustrations were deep-seated and beyond that very moment. It was as though she had a prolonged inner conflict, which she vented on others, and that particular instance was yet another opportunity for her to do so. Frustrated people do a lot of crazy and frustrating things. They get angry, bitter and resentful. They usually blame others for their failures and lack of joy.

Imagine if the Lord had asked Martha what the problem really was, she probably would have said ‘’Lord, it’s such a long story’’; then she’d begin narrating her catalogue of frustrations. Rather that allow yourself to be overwhelmed and buffeted by the numerous demands and challenges of the day, learn to fix your gaze on the Master! As you fellowship with Him through the Word and the Holy Spirit, you’ll experience peace within you; and you’ll find out that in the midst of trouble you’re unperturbed and full of indescribable joy (1 Peter 1:8).

Prayer

Dear Father, I thank you for loving and caring for me affectionately. I give room for your peace to mount guard over my heart. I reject anxiety, worry and stress, choosing to live in joy and rest today, and every day, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
